Raising awareness for unknown heart conditions and provide free heart scanning for high school students in honor of Tim Haley
Tim's Story
On April 13th 2017 Timothy Lawrence Haley died from an unknown heart issue while playing cards with friends. It was labeled as a Fatal Ventricular Arrhythmia due to Cardiomegaly with left ventricle hypertrophy. Essentially a thickening of the inner lining of the heart caused a valve in his heart to close and never reopen.
Timothy Haley loved his family, his parents Bob & Dorothy Haley, Brothers Anthony (Sam), Jeffrey & Zachary Haley and his goddaughter Savannah Haley.
He was a 2009 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame, a 2011 graduate of John Wood Community College and in 2013 graduated from Quincy University with his Bachelor of Science degree in business finance.
When at QND he was a three sport athlete playing baseball, cross country & basketball. Timothy went on to play baseball at John Wood and Quincy University. He went on to play in the prospect league (the same league as the Quincy Gems) in 2011 for the Albany Dutchman in New York, and in 2012 for the Butler Blue Sox in Pennsylvania.
Timothy always enjoyed sports and loved to work out. Not only being an athlete himself, he also enjoyed watching his brothers compete as well. He liked to hunt, fish, ride horses, ride motorcycles and play cards. Timothy enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face. He loved children and babies, especially his god-daughter, Savannah.
His family & friends have begun hosting an annual event in his memory - The Heart Check for Tim. Our goal for this event is to raise awareness for unknown heart conditions, have a fun day in Timothy’s honor, and raise money for those diagnosed with heart conditions. At our event, Quincy Medical group will be on site to provide free heart scanning for all high school students. We will have a 4 on 4 Wiffleball tournament, food, live music, a basket raffle, and silent auction. If we can help prevent one family from going through the pain of losing a loved one as we have, it will ALL be worth it.
All proceeds raised at the Heart Check will be split between to QMG’s Foundation for pediatric heart conditions & to the Timothy L. Haley Scholarship Fund at QND. We hope to see you May 11th at the Knights of Columbus grounds!
